Jay Cochrane walks over Love River/愛河高空走鋼索 柯克侖再破紀錄
June 30, 2001. Kaohsiung's temperature hit a record of 35.7℃, the highest in the last 5 years. Meanwhile, the bank of the Love River was sizzlingly hot with huge crowd. On the spot, the holder of 5 Guinness world records, "The Prince of the Air" Jay Cochrane broke the record of urban skywalk by traversing the Love River on a 750-meter-long, 120-meter-high tightrope in one hour without any protective equipment. Dazzlingly colored balloons soared to his triumph as he completed the feat, which won rounds of warm applauses and put the city of Kaohsiung on the renowned Guinness Book.
Cochrane came across the idea of walking over Love River when he was invited to join this year's Kaohsiung Lantern Festival. After thorough survey, he decided to cross the Love River from Ta Yuan Building to the top of Illuna Galleries. He hoped to bring Kaohsiung's beauty to the world through the event.
Cochrane is scheduled to set yet another Guinness record in Kaohsiung during this coming Mid-autumn Festival. He plans to stay in mid-air for 22 successive days to overwrite the old record of staying on steel wire for 21 days. The incredible attempt is expected to cause quite a stir again in Taiwan.
2001年6月30日，萬里晴空，高雄市出現五年以來最高溫35.7℃，民眾的熱情在愛河邊引爆，原來五項金氏世界紀錄持有人──高空王子杰伊‧柯克侖，以一個小時走完750公尺長的鋼索，順利橫越高雄愛河上空，在沒有任何防護措施下，打破都會型高空走鋼索距離最遠的金氏世界紀錄。這項壯舉也把高雄市的名字，躍登金氏世界紀錄榜。
柯克侖是在今年元宵節應邀參觀高雄燈會，對愛河留下深刻印象，燃起以鋼索橫越愛河的構想，希望透過這次的活動，讓國際人士知道高雄市的美。
今年中秋節，柯克侖還要再來高雄市，嘗試打破在高空鋼索上停留時間最長21天的世界金氏紀錄，將連續在高空22天，吃喝拉撒睡都在天上，讓人不可思議，勢必再度造成轟動。
