2001 Kaohsiung Container Art Festival / 裝置貨櫃 擁抱海洋─2001高雄國際貨櫃藝術節
The one-month 2001 Kaohsiung International Container Art Festival kicked off at the Ocean Star (Wharf 19-21), an ideal site for celebrations and festivals such as Lantern Festival and fireworks show on National Day.
Displaying many huge outdoor installation arts, the container art festival opened with performances of Cloud Gate Dance Theater, Godot Theater Company, French dragon and lion dance, dazzling fireworks and many other grand programs, drawing enormous crowds on a cool drizzling evening.
Altogether 20 artists from 16 foreign countries and 6 local artists dotted the Ocean Star with all kinds of creative, entertaining and conceptual container installations, breathing new life into and giving artistic touches on the rigid metal freight compartments, something that is closely associated with many industries in Kaohsiung, the world's fourth top container shipping port.
The main attractions of the container art show are the pieces of visual arts: "Kaohsiung 509025.6 Nautical Miles," "Erasing Scenery," "To: Sahara," and "A Container with Shells." The container art show has not only strengthened Kaohsiung's cultural exchange with other cities of the world but also enhanced the city's presence in the international art arena.
從國慶煙火、高雄燈會，「海洋之星」已經成了高雄人舉辦嘉年華會的理想地點。
以貨櫃為主題的藝術展覽，打破美術館殿堂的空間侷限，在新光路底高雄港區19-21號碼頭／海洋之星，展開為期一個月的「2001高雄國際貨櫃藝術節」戶外大型裝置展覽，從開幕第一天晚會就吸引成千上萬的民眾前往參觀。
港邊的風徐徐吹來，細雨也擋不住觀眾的熱情，無論是雲門舞者的勁舞，果陀劇場載歌載舞的歡樂氣氛，還是法國飛行異人的空中「舞龍舞獅」，七彩飛魚或是曳長大紅蛇和巨型恐龍...，以及一連串向上奔竄或低空奔放的璀璨亮麗的煙火，令現場觀眾嘖嘖稱奇，驚嘆聲不斷。
海洋之星偌大的廣場分置的貨櫃個個在星空下發亮，無論是白天或晚上，來自16個國家、20 位藝術家，與6位台灣本地藝術家，或是創意性、遊戲性、觀念性的「裝置」貨櫃，把這個與高雄市產業息息相關的特徵重新呈現、解讀，拉近了產業與民眾距離，創作主題包括此項活動主要視覺作品「高雄，509025.6海浬」及其它作品「抹去的風景」、「前進撒哈拉」、「有貝殼的貨櫃」等，同時，也再一次大大提高了高雄藝術節慶能見度，貨櫃藝術節使高雄登上國際的文化舞台─擁抱全世界。
