Yasuhiro Toda is nick-named a-Tai by his Taiwanese friends. The Japanese national, moved to Kaohsiung four years ago and works as a performing artiest and percussionist. He originally came to Taiwan for a gig and was so impressed he soon returned on his own. He felt Taipei was much like Tokyo, another large metropolis. Looking for something different, he instantly liked Kaohsiung's temperate weather and leisurely lifestyle and decided to make it his new home.
A-Tai was one of the performers in the World Games 2009, Opening Ceremony. He felt performing live in front of fifty-thousand was a great experience and with the constant replays throughout that night, he was so excited he could not sleep.
When asked about his impression of Kaohsiung, a-Tai responded the weather is very hot, but he really likes the warmth of the people. When it comes to sampling local flavors a-Tai states he has "no limits". He likes Taiwanese "blood pudding" (processed pig or duck blood with a tofu like texture) and has even sampled betel nut, provided by one of his Taiwanese friends.
A-Tai hopes to get more opportunity to work with other local musicians and pass on his passion for music to the youth. He also understands young people may not be able to afford to pay to see performances, however if he plays smaller venues in the New Jyuejiang shopping area, it would be more affordable for them. It would also give him more opportunity to interact with music lovers and find people that share the same passion.
A-Tai is so happy being a musician and feels it is his calling in life. When he is not performing, a-Tai hosts workshops and teaches drumming. He feels teaching is another great way to connect with people that share the same passion. A-Tai is completely comfortable in Kaohsiung and enjoys being surrounded by the ocean and the warmth of his friends.

Huang Wun-jie is from Hong Kong. This summer he and his friends travelled to Kaohsiung for three weeks. It was Wun-jie's third time in Kaohsiung and he convinced his friends to come with him, as they had just graduated college. He particularly enjoys Kaohsiung's friendly people and slower pace of life. While in Kaohsiung they stayed at "Hsi Ren Guesthouse". Wun-jie likes it because of the decor and its sketched comical figures. He feels staying at the guesthouses allows for more opportunity to mingle with locals and get familiar with the culture.
One of his favorite tourist spots is Pier-2 Art District. He makes sure he checks out their latest exhibitions every time he is in town. He also enjoys visiting Cijin Island. While in Kaohsiung, Wun-jie goes to the traditional wet markets to get groceries, to cook for him and his friends. He likes the variety of products and the open spaces at Taiwan's traditional wet markets. He gets around the city using MRT and bus.
There are some local delicacies that are not available in Hong Kong. His favorites include Pepper Pie, Chicken Rice and Bitter-melon Juice. While he was in Kaohsiung he would enjoy trying different drinks from convenience stores and checking out the independent coffee shops. As a traveler, Wun-jie likes to bring back "a taste" of the country he has been visiting. This time he brought back Mullet Roe and Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes for his family.
Although Wun-jie and his friends were very busy, they weren't able to get to all the places they had wanted to see and plan to see them next time. While in Taiwan they also visited Tainan and Taichung. They feel if people travel in Taiwan they should learn some Mandarin or Taiwanese. By being able to communicate with local people, it will enrich their experiences in Taiwan.
