Mayor Chen Chu's trip to Tokyo, Yokohama, Kyoto, Okazaki and Osaka was once again a success. This year's delegation aimed to promote creative and eco-friendly industries. From June 28th to July 2nd, the delegation visited seven companies, two commercial areas and signed three Memorandums of Understanding.

In 2008 and 2009, Mayor Chen led two other delegations to Japan, resulting in a number of important economic partnerships. Shogakukan Inc. set up a branch in Kaohsiung's Software Park, commissioning local vendors to promote their products to the international Chinese-speaking market. The company is planning to develop an animation development center in the area.

In February 2010, Sony Computer Entertainment Taiwan (SCET) Limited established a research center, opening in the Pier-2 Art District by the end of this year. Over the next three years, the company will collaborate with Taiwanese businesses in developing more than 20 digital games. This project is valued at approximately NT 1.8 billion and forecasts the creation of more than 20,000 jobs. It is also hoped that over the next five to ten years the project will draw over seventy-five related businesses to the region.

During this trip, the delegation signed Memorandums of Understanding with renowned creative enterprises Hakuhodo Inc., Interocean and Vantan. The leading advertising and marketing agency Hakuhodo Inc. will assist Kaohsiung in transforming its existing shopping districts into prosperous commercial centers. Interocean will assist with the conversion of the old port into an exciting recreational area. The company is very experienced in transforming business areas into multi-media complexes. Vantan is a famous Japanese school with exceptional digital specialists. Vantan will assist Kaohsiung City in going forward with its next technological advancements.

In accordance with the Ministry of Economic Affairs'upcoming Intelligent Electric Car Development Project, Mitsubishi Corporation has been invited to demonstrate electric cars and other re-chargeable products. Over the next three years, Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs will invest 2.2 billion to build 3000 Intelligent Electric cars.

Kaohsiung is certainly advanced in transportation and international logistics. It is also sunny year round, making it a perfect location for solar product testing. Kaohsiung will greatly develop environmental industries and technologies. Mayor Chen invites Omron Corporation to invest in Kaohsiung, creating even more eco-friendly opportunities. The city will soon be entering global markets with the manufacturing of electric cars, bikes and other environmentally friendly products. It is hoped with these developments, will transform Kaohsiung into a model for other cities.
