12th Golden Melody Awards to be held in Kaohsiung/金曲獎頒獎典禮
Following the Double Tenth Day's fireworks display and the Lantern Festival, another annual big activity that used to take place in Taipei will be moved to Kaohsiung. The Kaohsiung City Government's Department of Information (DOI) has gained the approval of the Government Information Office (GIO) of Executive Yuan for hosting the 12th Golden Melody Awards, which will be held in the Chih-teh Hall, Chiang Kai-shek Cultural Center on May, 5. Kaohsiung people will be able to enjoy a high-level musical activity.
The Kaohsiung City Government (KCG) has made every endeavor to move big cultural activities to Kaohsiung, said the DOI. Last year, the city government held a concert, a related activity of the 11th Golden Melody Awards, at the Jen-ai Park in Kaohsiung. This year, the KCG made a step forward and gained the approval of the GIO for hosting the big event in the Chih-teh Hall of the Cultural Center.
The 12th Golden Melody Awards would give Kaohsiung's music-lovers an opportunity to join the biggest musical event in Taiwan. The Golden Melody Awards is also very popular among overseas Chinese communities; accordingly, through the media and live coverage offered by satellite TV or the Internet, Kaohsiung will become well-known globally. This event can also promote the local record market and help create more balanced cultural development between northern and southern Taiwan.
繼國慶煙火、元宵燈會南下高雄市舉辦之後，第十二屆金曲獎頒獎典禮，將於五月五日南移本市中正文化中心至德堂隆重舉辦，讓港都民眾享受一場高水準的音樂活動。
市府新聞處表示，市府為提昇高雄的能見度，對於爭取各項大型藝文活動南下高雄舉辦，一向不遺餘力，去年即向行政院新聞局爭取在本市仁愛公園舉行第十一屆金曲獎高雄演唱會，今年更再接再厲爭取將頒獎典禮南移本市文化中心至德堂舉辦。
首次離開台北市舉辦的金曲獎活動，除可讓熱愛音樂的高雄市民有機會參與國內音樂界的盛事，及對音樂有更深的認識，由於金曲獎活動甚受華人社會所喜愛，透過新聞媒體的報導、衛星電視轉播及網路的傳播，對於行銷高雄、凝聚城市的活力、活絡本地唱片市場，皆有正面效果，同時也可以平衡南北文化發展。
