The Bright Quality of Kaohsiung Wins JC's Heart / 陽光高雄令JC著迷
JC never expected that he would stay in Kaohsiung for 20 years and find his soul mate, his Taiwanese wife Teresa when he initially came here for teaching English and learning Chinese. Now, JC has determined to stay. He currently teaches English and plans to teach art classes as well. The most exciting news is that JC held his very first art exhibition in Kaohsiung not long ago. This year, indeed, has been a fruitful year for JC.
JC enjoys the hot weather and clear days in Kaohsiung, because the warm weather is similar to his hometown in Texas. On a sunny day, JC sees the city's bright qualities. However, a cloudy day or a rainy day also reveals irresistible charms in the eyes of JC, because he sees the various hues in sky.
Few years ago, JC started to take the bus to get around in the city instead of driving by himself. The bus journey is quite pleasurable, and as a passenger, JC has complete freedom to look around or to draw a quick sketch whenever he sees interesting things or people. Afterwards, he may use them as a resource for his painting. JC likes to experience the culture thoroughly and to go beyond the surface of the exotic culture. One may find his care and love toward this land by carefully observing his drawings and paintings of local scenery, such as the old factories.
After living in Kaohsing for so long, Taiwan is more like home to JC than America. Despite the remote distances, he will not forget to send Christmas gifts to his parents and friends at Christmas. JC has made many fabulous friends here, and they are the main reason that JC keeps staying in Taiwan year after year.
美國籍的JC最初來台灣是為了教英文的工作和學習中文的機會，也因此而認識了台灣太太─Teresa，轉眼間JC已經在高雄居住了20年，更開心的是，JC打算繼續在高雄長住下來。JC現在教書、畫畫，更舉辦第一次的個展，今年對JC而言，無疑是豐收的一年。
JC很喜愛高雄炙熱的好天氣，對愛畫畫且老家在溫暖的德州附近的JC而言，展現出一種格外迷人的明亮光線的特質，即便是偶爾的陰天或雨天，天空中豐富的色調，也是讓JC讚賞不已的。
JC幾年前就開始以公車作為代步工具，穿梭於城市的每一個角落，從窗外看見有趣的人、事、物，也會趕緊畫個草圖，回家後再慢慢整理，悠閒地享受著搭乘公車的幸福時光。JC說，他喜歡搭乘公車深入的了解高雄的風土人情，而非只是過客般對於異國文化膚淺的感受，從JC畫作中的老工廠，不難感受到他對這片土地細膩而深厚的情感。
由於長住於高雄，對他而言，台灣反而比美國更像是自己的家。儘管距離遙遠，JC每年的聖誕節，他也一定不會忘記郵寄聖誕禮物給在美國的親友，JC在台灣，耕耘出自己的路，同時也結交了許多的好朋友，這也是JC在高雄一住就是20年的主要原因。
