Kaohsiung City Government is proud to announce the completion of the Kong Jhai Park. This 2.1-hectar park was completed in March and is located near 5th Avenue and Kaofong Road in Shiaogang District's Dapingding Special Zone. It is right on the boarder of Kaohsiung City and Kaohsiung County. Located on a plateau, the park provides a look out area for visitors to watch airplanes takeoff and land at Kaohsiung's International Airport. The park also features an eighty meter long air defense tunnel which has been transformed into a stunning astronomical passageway.takeoff and land at Kaohsiung's International Airport. Kong Jahi (formerly a vacant plot of land) was referred to as "The Open Space" by the immigrants that first settled there. The Li Family was the first family to cultivate the land. There is a Li Memorial at the end of the park so the park's history would not be forgotten.

Freedom within Reach ─ the Kong Jhai Park Besides the rumble of the airplanes, visitors can enjoy the sounds of nature and the chirping of the birds. Made up of gentle pebble slopes, this natural area will make you forget you are in the city. When construction began, ecological ditches were adopted to ease water loss and grass was planted in order to reduce water damage.
At the bottom of the park is an abandoned tunnel which was built during Japanese Colonial rule. The tunnel is 80 meters long, 2.5 meters in width and 2 meters in height. The tunnel was previously used as an ammunition depot and was restored and transferred to where it is situated today. The tunnel has since become a recreational spot for local residents. The City government decided not to remodel its original and unique look, but simply install sensory lights. The ultraviolet lights which were projected on the exterior of the tunnel created a star-like impression. This was definitely a beautiful addition to this historical site. Visitors must follow the wooden trail to the top of the slope. Once at the top there is a beautiful scenic view for all to enjoy.
