The Kaohsiung Wireless Network Platform, which will eventually form a database for public information as well as providing safer and more convenient life for the residents of Kaohsiung, has been created in cooperation with the Police, the Transportation and Fire Bureau as well as the Information Office and the Public Works Bureau. The Transportation Bureau has chosen the eASPNet as being the best company to create this facility, and it has already signed the contract with the city government.
The Mayor of Kaohsiung City, Frank Hsieh, announced that Kaohsiung would be equipped as a intelligent city in terms of its wireless network environment. It is the first application of a government information system, aimed at serving the public in digital technology. Hopefully, by the end of 2005, Kaohsiung will apply to be admitted by the World Teleport Association into the Intelligent Communities, which represent various cities throughout the world.
The Cost of Installing the Wireless Network Platform totals NT.130 million dollars. It will be situated at the control center of the Transportation Bureau, and its completion data is estimated as being nest year at the latest.
The Wireless Network Platform is designed to place the wireless environment in the existing street-lamp or traffic sing posts in order to reduce the number of additional poles, which would often alter the existing landscape of the city. In addition, various bureaus in the city government would be able to share the database of monitoring facilities through this system.
The Transportation Bureau will start the Wireless Network installation soon. Beginning from Lingya, Cianjin and Sinsing Districts, it will eventually expand over the entire city. By the middle of December, one would be able to enjoy browsing the Internet at the city hall and the city council. Singuang Districts would also be completed and tested online. The remaining eight districts are scheduled to be completed in the year 2005.
高市「無線網路共用平台」由交通局主導招標，日前已與得標廠商「數位通」國際網路公司簽訂工程合約，結合警政、交通、消防、新聞、工務等五個局處，使資源更加有效利用和管理，並為市民提供更安全、便捷的高雄市。
市長謝長廷宣示高雄市將成為「行動高雄智慧型城市」。若設置完成，高雄市將是全球首座以「市政公務」為建置出發點的無線網路城市，預定明年底，高雄市無線網路共同平台建置計畫向世界通訊端協會﹝World Teleport Association, WTA﹞提出申請，將高雄市加入2004年智慧城市評鑑。
「無線網路共用平台」硬體設施總經費一點三億元，將建置於交通局樓上的交控中心，最遲明年即可完工。
無線共用平台將以「共桿共構」為基礎，包括「附掛共桿」、「監視共用」、「儲存共構」及「資料共享」，各局處只需透過網路，便可抓取需要的資料，而民眾也可享受無線上網相關功能。
舉例來說，市區重要道路的攝影機將傳回「路口即時影像系統」畫面，供交控中心內部的控管人員機動調配，遇有塞車路段即調整前、後段紅綠燈。另外，警察人員也可監控影像，輸入贓車車號「贓車辨識」，市區若有贓車行駛即發出警報；而消防人員也可藉由「救災影像即時傳輸」，掌握火場最新狀況。
交通局將在近日內展開無線城市的建置工程，首先從苓雅區、前金區及新興區三個區域開始打造，未來還會擴展到全高雄市，而今年12月中旬，市政府、市議會、新光碼頭、文化中心的無線上網便可啟用，明年4月新興區、前金區、苓雅區三個行政區將全面完成AP的佈設並上線測試。另外，其餘8個行政區，市府也預定在94年度陸續完成。
