Highest Dispatch Rate Jyuemin-NSTM Main Route Adopts All Low-Floor Buses; Card-swiping Services Available at Both the Front and the Rear Doors; Favorite among Handicapped Persons
2016-09-06

[Kaohsiung] “Which is the most frequently dispatched bus route in Kaohsiung City?” The Jyuemin-National Science and Technology Museum (NSTM) main route, which travels between the Pier-2 Art Center and the Mengli Community Center in the Niaosong District, dispatches a bus every 10 minutes on average. The route passes by Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital and all vehicles are low-floor buses equipped with card-swiping devices at both the front and the rear doors. As such, the route has become a favorite among handicapped passengers, as they feel that they can easily get on and off the buses.       The Kaohsiung Bus Group operates the Jyuemin-NSTM main route and it is funded by a subsidy program for vehicle replacement from the central government. The Jyuemin-NSTM route currently operates 18 low-floor buses between the Pier-2 Art Center and the Mengli Community Center in the Niaosong District. It also passes through Kaohsiung Station, the National Science and Technology Museum, and Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. With an average of one bus dispatched every 10 minutes, there are a total of 70 dispatches per day.       The Jyuemin-NSTM route also provides WiFi and USB charging services. The LED display on the outside of the bus shows the first and last stops, traveling direction, major stops, and other useful information for the convenience of the passengers. The rear LED display is linked with the turn signals to show warning text when the bus is turning or stopping in order to remind vehicles following behind the bus to be attentive to traffic safety.       Until the end of 2016, people can also take the bus to visit the National Science and Technology Museum, where everyone who takes the Jyuemin-NSTM bus to the NSTM station can receive a discount coupon for the museum. The coupon entitles a person to purchase a discounted adult ticket at the price of NT$70 (original price: NT$100), a discounted student ticket at the price of NT$50 (original price: NT$70), or other discounted tickets (not including tickets for special exhibitions).       In the past, passengers always had to get on the bus through the front door in order to swipe their cards. Now, all the low-floor buses that operate on this route are equipped with the card-swiping devices at both the front and the rear doors. Thus, passengers can also get on the bus through the rear door and swipe their cards. This one-bus-two-device, multi-card compatible card swipe feature effectively improves the time it takes for people to get on or off the bus and increases card-swiping efficiency.       As the route goes by Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, has a short wait time, and is operated exclusively by low-floor buses, it has become the most liked and praised bus route for handicapped passengers. Chen (a pseudonym) is a disabled person who frequently visits Kaohsiung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. He said, “The Jyuemin-NSTM route is very convenient. The floor of the bus is low and easy for wheelchairs to get on and off. You can swipe your card at both the front and the rear doors, and the inside of the bus is very spacious – these are all very helpful for a handicapped person.”       Currently, in addition to the Jyuemin-NSTM main route, the Jiangong main route, the Orange 16, and the Westside Express line also exclusively use low-floor buses. On the hot summer days, the Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau welcomes you to ride on the comfortable “Cool Buses” of Kaohsiung City.
