Fisherman's Wharf /

Kaohsiung Harbor's No. 2 wharf used to be a strictly controlled banana selling vicinity, but nowadays, it's known as the Fisherman's Wharf, and is a place for everyone. This area, also known as the 'former banana exporting harbor', used to be lined with truck upon truck of bananas ready to be exported to Japan. Now, for the first time in history, the No. 2 wharf has been opened to the public and has immediately become a popular attraction due to the spectacular views it provides of the port.

There are 122 wharves surrounding Kaohsiung Port, all of which used to be forbidden to the public. Lots of people would drive to the end of Cihsien Road wanting to get inside to catch a glimpse of the enormous ships and also of the lush-looking Cihou Mountain, only to be denied entry by the port police. Fortunately, due to the opening of the No. 2 wharf, all that has changed.
◎"A New World"
It has been 140 years since Kaohsiung Port first opened, and in that time, a lot of changes have occurred. The most recent change took place on the 4th of November 2004, when two sentinel stations were removed. The new Fisherman's Wharf area is now under the management of the Dakaway Company. They control the whole vicinity, including a warehouse built in 1951, a 2,986 square-meter storage area, as well as the wharf area that spans 14 meters in width. The Dakaway Company began managing the wharf on October the 29th, 2002, and will do so for nine years. By continuing along Cihsien Road, you can now drive to Fisherman's Wharf where you'll find an abundance of food, outdoor seating, and more than 200 parking spaces.
Since the reconstruction of the wharf, a food court, theme restaurants, and a pub have replaced the area that was previously used for storing bananas. Floor to ceiling windows allow visitors to enjoy both an ocean view as well as a port view. From behind the windows, visitors can also admire the man-made coconut forest, a wooden walking path, a pond, and a stage used for live performances, making the current area so much more than just forklifts and trucks.
Fisherman's Wharf is one of the newest sights in Kaohsiung City, and is a great place to visit at night. The area is suitable for all, including multi-generational families. Grandparents and parents can sit at the tables taking in the port views over a nice chat, whilst children can be playing games and jumping around in the open spaces. Fisherman's Wharf in Kaohsiung Port finally belongs to the citizens and visitors of Kaohsiung.
The Public has been unable to visit Kaohsiung Port for 140 years due to a policy strictly prohibiting public admittance. With the opening of the Fisherman's Wharf, visitors to the area can now travel from this point to Gushan Ferry Wharf, and Finally stop at Sizih Bay, taking in all three sights contained within the port.
