Festival & Pre-Events of Demonstration World Games 2009 Kaohsiung
In order to introduce the World Games competition events to the public and increase understanding of Kaohsiung City, the KOC held the "World Games Demonstration Competition and Festival" on December 10 and 11, 2005. It was an opportunity for the KOC departments to gain experience in organizing a large-scale event.
The World Games Demonstration Competition presented twenty-three sports from all sports feature in the World Games 2009. Competition events took places in the following venues: the Chung Cheng Stadium, the Chung Cheng Martial Arts Stadium, the Extreme Sports Park, the International Standard Swimming Pool, and the Guan-Yuan Bowling Alley. Official events include thirteen sports, namely Canoe Polo, Bowling, Korfball, Rugby 7s, Billiards, Karate, Roller Speed Skating, Roller In-line Hockey, Tug of War, Gymnastics, Body Building, Powerlifting, and Orienteering. The Demonstration events cover ten sports: Life Saving, Fin Swimming, Boules Sports, Gateball, Tchoukball, Aikido, Ju-jitsu, Dance Sport, Casting and Climbing.
The World Games Festival was to be held around the Chung Cheng Stadium. Historical records of the World Games, along with video clips and photographs, will be shown at the festival. Citizens can also participate in Physical Fitness challenges.
Undoubtedly, the KOC departments gained practical and useful experience from holding activities like the Demonstration Competition and the Festival. Meanwhile, such events can also encourage the public's participation in the approaching 2009 World Games as well as achieving a healthy city.

為使國人了解世界運動會舉辦項目並藉此行銷高雄，世運組委會特於94年12月10、11日舉辦「世界運動會示範賽暨嘉年華會」，希望藉此提升組委會各部辦理大型賽事之能力。 世界運動會示範賽擇取2009世運比賽項目中23項進行有關賽事，活動地點包括中正體育場、中正技擊館、極限運動場、國際標準游泳池、冠源保齡球館等，正式比賽項目計有輕艇水球、保齡球、合球、七人制橄欖球、撞球、空手道、直排輪競速、直排輪曲棍球、拔河、體操、健美、健力、越野追蹤等13項；表演項目計有水上救生、蹼泳、滾球、槌球、巧固球、合氣道、柔術、運動舞蹈、甩竿及攀岩等10項)。 世界運動會嘉年華會活動地點則分布於中正體育場周邊，活動內容包括二大項：（一）世運會的介紹─展示世運會相關競賽影片及圖片解說。（二）體適能挑戰過關活動。 相信透過上述世運會熱身賽的舉行，世運組委會各部門可以不斷歷練並累積經驗，同時激發全民參與2009世運會的興趣，讓「健康運動城市」的目標一直延續下去。
