Ever since Kaohsiung City successfully strived for the right to host the 2009 World Games, all kinds of preparatory work has been carried out eagerly by the co-operation of both the government and private sectors: the promotion of various sports, as well as an enthusiasm for them; experiences in hosting large international games and exchanges with sports personages. In terms of hardware development, the recent focus of attention has been the evaluation of the design and eventual manufacture of the Main Stadium for the 2009 World Games. The company chosen to undertake the project was selected this month. All these enterprises have shown the determination and confidence of the city in hosting the world games.
-◆- The Main Stadium for 2009 World Games-International Tender Competition
Ten famous international experts and scholars from Taiwan, Japan, USA, UK, Germany and Holland, were especially appointed by Kaohsiung City Government to form a procurement evaluation committee for the 'Construction of the Main Stadium for 2009 World Games'. The main applicants were five well-known domestic class-A comprehensive constructors, which teamed up with international professionals to take part in this tender competition. It was Fu-Tsu Construction Co. Ltd that finally won the bid. The design Fu-Tsu proposed was in the shape of a dragon - a spiral structure with open space. It included both the required elements of a green building and solar energy thus winning the committee members' hearts. The main stadium for 2009 world games, presenting, as it does, a globalisec representation of southern Taiwan, shall make the country more competitive when striving to host future major international games.
-◆- A New Landmark for Kaohsiung
The main stadium for the 2009 World Games is to be located in the former northern campsite of the for Marine Corp, between Jyonghai Road and Jhunsiao Road in Zuoying District. It has not only been designated as a site for track and field events but also for a football arena with the capacity to hold 40 to 55 thousand people. More importantly, it will become a new landmark for Kaohsiung, and is to be combined with the national sports training center. Based on the idea of a sport park, a national sports park will be created as a new leisure area for the citizens of Kaohsiung. Furthermore, since the surrounding area of Zuoying is less developed, it is hoped that the creation of main stadium, will help cultivate that area and thus balance it with the urban development. Currently taking place in that vicinity.
The pre-schedule work for the building of planning and miscellaneous works connected with the principal construction of the main stadium, starts in January 2006, the whole project being completed by January 2009, ready for the 8th World Game.

高雄市政府特別聘請由台、日、美、英、德、荷等國10名知名的國際級專家學者擔任「2009世運會主場館新建工程」評審工作，此次共有5家國內知名的甲級綜合營造廠商領銜的國內外專業團隊參與競標，最後由「互助營造股份有限公司」提出龍身造型、螺旋體結構，採開放性空間，兼具綠建築及太陽光電特色的體育館獲得評審青睞，將為台灣建設一座深具南台灣特色及國際視野的2009世運會主場館，以強化我國申辦國際大型賽會之競爭優勢。 -◆- 高雄市新地標
2009年世界運動會主場館選定於左營區中海路及軍校路交叉口的海軍陸戰隊勝利北營區，不僅規劃為一個可容納4萬到5萬５千人賽事所需要的田徑場及足球場，更重要的是將成為高雄市的新地標，且與國家運動訓練中心結合，輔以運動公園之規劃，打造國家運動園區，建構市民一個新的休憩地點。而主場館座落於高雄都會區北端之左營區，其週邊地區發展較為落後，希望藉由主場館帶動該區的繁榮，促進都市的均衡發展結合。 主場館預定於95年1月起規劃設計及施工，98年1月竣工，迎接第8屆世界運動會的到來。 |
