Peter Salba, an international student from the Philippines, who speaks fluent Mandarin, is now pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Business Management from the National Sun Yat-sen University where he received a four-year doctoral scholarship. Most importantly, he values highly the school policy, that only English should be used for the doctoral degree. He thinks this requirement will benefit students in terms of adding competitiveness in the current trend of globalization. He expects to receive the degree in 2009. Although stressful, Peter is glad that he seized this opportunity to come and seek more advanced knowledge. would be added the competitiveness to its students under current trend of globalization. 　Peter has been in Kaohsiung since only last September. However, he seems to be quite familiar with the city.  He knows a lot about the place because he is not afraid of trying new things. Also, he likes to explore a new place "on foot". He said that walking in a new area allows him to familiarize himself with this surroundings quickly. Plus, he can meet interesting people, see new things, and can always speed up or slow down his pace on the road whenever he wants.
　Peter likes to walk along the Love River and Fisherman's Wharf. He recommends a visit to the famous Lotus Lake, in the morning, the 85 Building for a great Kaohsiung Harbor view in the afternoon, and then go to Sizihwan Bay or a night market in the evening. Peter usually rides his scooter or takes a bus when going out. He said that it would be great if buses came more frequently. He also looks forward to the completion of the MRT and High Speed Rail projects and hopes that they will create a more convenient public transportation system.
　Peter knows how to manage his time well, so despite a heavy study load, he still participates in many extracurricular activities. For instance, he served as the announcer in the opening ceremony of the newly established International Corner in National Sun Yat-sen University. According to Peter, the International Corner provides opportunities for international and local students to communicate and exchange ideas. It is a forum which welcomes not only students but also friends outside the campus.

中文說得很流利的Peithe Ma Salva ，是來自菲律賓籍的國際學生，於中山大學企業管理學系攻讀博士班，Peter
因為取得４年博士班的獎學金而來到中山大學，預計於2009年取得學位，他坦言壓力很大，但仍把握難得的機會，爭取在學問的領域之中更上一層樓的機會。

　Peithe去年９月才來到高雄，但他對這個城市卻顯得很熟悉，訪談中，侃侃而談高雄好吃好玩的地方，儼然是個高雄通，這要歸功於他樂於接觸新事物且勇於嚐新的積極態度，此外，這也跟他喜歡以「走路」來認識新環境有很大的關係，Peithe表示走路可以讓他很快地熟悉一個陌生的地方，沿途遇到有趣的人、事、物，還可以隨時隨地調整腳步。

　閒暇時，Peithe喜歡到愛河及漁人碼頭走走，他特別推薦：白天參觀高雄的風景名勝蓮池潭，下午到八五大樓，欣賞高雄港的美景，晚上不妨到西子灣或夜市走走。Peithe出門時以摩托車和公車為代步工具，他建議本市公車班次可以再密集些，他很期盼高雄未來建構捷運及高鐵完成後，能提供更完善、更便捷的大眾交通運輸系統。

　擅於時間管理的Peithe，儘管課業繁忙，仍積極主動地參與課外活動，如中山大學日前成立的International Corner，他就擔任活動開幕當天的主持人，Peithe認為這個International Corner提供本國與外國籍學生一個交流的空間，甚至這個空間也不侷限於學生，這個園地更歡迎所有的朋友一起來參與、使用。

The reason why Mr. and Mrs. Miller chose to stay in Kaohsiung is because of the city's missionary team, as well as the fact that there is an American School in Dashe which allows their children to receive a western-style education. Upon first meeting Mr. and Mrs. Miller, you'll immediately notice their friendly nature and constant smile while speaking. Although they both already speak fluent Taiwanese, they are still attending classes to continually hone their language skills. They said that by learning Taiwanese they hope to become more integrated in the southern Taiwanese culture, not to mention that it is easier to get around in Kaohsiung if one can speak the local dialect.
　Mr. and Mrs. Miller said the biggest difference between Taiwan and America is both the fortunate convenience of eating out as well as the unfortunate hectic traffic situation in Taiwan. Their favourite foods are beef noodle soup and fried rice, but they daren't try "stinky tofu".
　Some famous sights including Cijin, Chaishan, the Chiang Kai-shek Culture Center, and Chengcing Lake are Mr. and Mrs. Miller's favourite places for a relaxing time out. However, as they drive around Kaohsiung, they see ways in which the situation could be improved. For example, traffic lights with a left-turn arrow as turning left with so much on-coming traffic can be quite dangerous. Also, more scooter parking would beautify the city even further. They also suggested that the City Government cooperate with local stores to publish a booklet outlining a list of shops with English speaking staff so that foreigners in Kaohsiung can get around more easily.
　Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been living in Kaohsiung for about three years. Compared to 1987, when Mr. Miller first came to Kaohsiung, the city has improved a lot with not only more modern buildings, but in general, a prettier looking city. Mr. and Mrs. Miller think that the people of Kaohsiung are cute, friendly and warm-hearted, which makes them feel welcome and accepted; so much so that they'd be happy living in Kaohsiung forever.

身為傳教士的Miller夫婦會選擇居住高雄的原因，是所屬的傳教士團隊已經在高雄，加上大社設有美國學校，方便小孩在台灣也可以接受美式教育。親切又面帶笑容笑的Miller夫婦倆都講了一口流利的台語，他們表示，當初學台語的動機是希望可以更融入及貼近台灣南部教友的心，也更方便在高雄生活。

　Miller夫婦覺得高雄和美國家鄉最大的不同是吃東西非常的方便，但是交通方面就覺得台灣比較複雜和危險。在高雄，他們最愛吃的食物非牛肉麵和炒飯莫屬，而味道強烈的臭豆腐他們則直說不敢領教。

　高雄著名的景點像旗津、柴山、文化中心和澄清湖都是Miller夫婦喜歡散步的地方。平常開車代步的他們也對高雄市交通有小小的建議，希望能增設左轉燈，避免綠燈時來不及左轉的窘境；還有可增加摩托車的停車格，讓市容更美麗。他們另外也建議市政府可以和民間合作出版一本所有會講英文的商店及公家機關名冊，讓在高雄的外國朋友可以更無憂慮的生活。
　Miller夫婦住在高雄已有３年的時間了。和1987年第一次來台灣比較，他們覺得高雄大大的進步了，不但建築物更多、更摩登，也比14年前更漂亮了! Miller夫婦還說高雄人很可愛又有人情味，讓他們覺得很溫暖，他們會永遠住在高雄!
