Elisha Keighley is currently working as Program officer of Waste Management at the Brisbane Community & Economic Development Division in Australia. Elisha came to Kaohsiung eleven weeks ago as part of an exchange program in order to visit the Environmental Protection Bureau. Elisha's trip to Kaohsiung presented her with an excellent opportunity to share her knowledge about environmental protection with local members of staff as well as to experience how environmental protection issues are dealt with in Kaohsiung. Elisha also left with positive comments on the hard work and obvious results of the Environmental Protection Bureau in Kaohsiung.
Fortunately for Elisha, her trip to Kaohsiung wasn't all work and no play. She also had a wonderful time with her home stay family, which should be largely attributed to Elisha's creative use of body language in getting her point across. Whilst in Kaohsiung, Elisha especially enjoyed going to the Urban Spotlight District to listen to music as well as hiking at Chai Mountain up close with the monkeys; "If I could, I would come back to Kaohsiung to see the monkeys", stated Elisha. Furthermore, high on her "things to do in Kaohsiung list" is to also visit the peaceful Kaohsiung Port to watch the birds flying around. Moreover, the wide selection of delicious food in Kaohsiung allowed Elisha to experience this major cultural difference between Taiwan and her home country. She stated that "Bao Zi" was her favourite food, and she also particularly enjoyed going to eat fresh seafood as well as enjoying a beverage with her friends at the local teahouses.
In addition to that, she was highly attracted to the intricate process of making Chinese tea and the beautiful tea sets and atmosphere associated with it.
Elisha thinks that Kaohsiung is a very special city because, although it has a fast-paced urban lifestyle, there still is a unique casual nature and relaxed atmosphere about the city. This is further enhanced by the warm-heartedness of the local people.
Finally, Elisha said that she had become life-time friends with her home stay family, and she hopes that they will visit her in Australia in the near future so that she can show them her hometown in return.
