The Opening and Closing Ceremonies of The World Games 2009 Kaohsiung
The World Will Be Watching

   Being the southern capital of Taiwan, Kaohsiung radiates endless enthusiasm like the sun. It is now ready to let The World Games 2009 illuminate in Kaohsiung.
　Kaohsiung has created many first time experiences through hosting The World Games 2009: it is the first time for The World Games to be held in the tropics, it is the first time for The World Games to be hosted in a Chinese area, and most importantly, Kaohsiung has constructed the world's first solar-powered large-scale open stadium for The World Games.
　Kaohsiung City will be hosting The World Games 2009 from July 16th to 26th. It is the first and largest international comprehensive sports event in Taiwan. The most anticipated events are the opening and closing ceremonies which are scheduled to be held on the 16th and 26th of July. The general director of the ceremonies, Mr. Tzong-Ching Ju, promises that the opening and closing ceremonies will be a "grand success" .
　In The World Games 2009, there will be more than 3000 athletes from all over the world gathering in Kaohsiung and more than 40,000 people watching the games live in the venue alongside the audience of the world-wide broadcast on television. Therefore, the organizing committee has called together the elites of large-scale program production and stage technology to form an executive team. With world-renowned performers, it is believed that this will create a whole new page for the history of comprehensive sports events in Taiwan. 
　Kaohsiung City Mayor Chu Chen, who is also the President of the Kaohsiung Organizing Committee (KOC) said that although the budget for the opening and closing ceremonies is limited, Kaohsiung City will take full advantage of the Main Stadium and elements of the Taiwanese spirit to present the distinguishing features of southern Taiwan and aim to show the unique cultural characteristics of Taiwan to the whole world through the opening and closing ceremonies.
　To achieve this goal, apart from facilitating the existing international resources, performances in the ceremonies also fuse talents of top performing artists from northern and southern Taiwan, to pursue a well-rounded presentation of Taiwan's unique characteristics. For the opening and closing ceremonies, KOC has invited the national treasure Tseg-O Lee, who is the first Japanese-educated professional dancer in Taiwan and is nicknamed "dragonfly grandma" and "grandma dancer" , to work with local performers. Together they will choreograph a brand new show and bring a spectacular performance to the whole world.
　The opening and closing ceremonies will also include some eco-friendly performances using all types of advanced technology products developed and manufactured in Taiwan, such as LED equipment, electric bicycles, and the visual experiences brought by large-scale projection technology. The ceremonies shall create an unprecedented scientific and technological experience for the audience and will become a topic of discussion among the international guests. In addition, the performances that highlight Taiwanese local culture with a fusion of multi-cultures, such as songs and dances of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan, traditional hand puppet shows, and various Minnan and Hakka cultural performances will be displayed on the international stage for The World Games 2009. The ceremonies will guarantee a refreshing experience for our guests from all over the world.

2009高雄世界運動會開閉幕

   因為舉辦世運，高雄創造了許多第一。世運第一次來到熱帶、世運第一次來到華人世界，最重要的是，高雄為世運建造了全世界第一座百分之百太陽能發電的大型露天體育館。身為南台灣首都的高雄，懷著艷陽般的熱情活力，要讓2009世界運動會在高雄發光、發亮。

　高雄市將於2009年7月16日至26日舉辦2009世界運動會，這是台灣第一次且規模最大的國際大型綜合運動賽事，其中最受各界矚目的2009高雄世運開閉幕典禮，預定於7月16日和26日舉辦，開閉幕總導演朱宗慶向大家保證，開閉幕典禮屆時做到「非常成功」。
　2009高雄世界運動會將有來自全球一百個國家逾3000名運動選手齊聚高雄，4萬餘名現場觀眾及全球電視觀眾同時觀賞；為此主辦單位召集了國內外大型節目製作與舞台技術菁英共同組成執行團隊，加上國際知名表演者，總計將超過數千人，相信必定將為台灣綜合運動賽事寫下歷史新頁！
　高雄市市長陳菊，同時也是KOC董事長表示，世運開閉幕雖然經費有限，但是高雄市將充份運用世運主場館的優勢與台灣的元素來展現出南台灣的特色，透過開閉幕和全世界分享台灣之美與文化特色。
　也因此，世運開閉幕表演除了結合自身的國際資源外，也整合南北最頂尖的表演藝術人才，台灣特色的表現，便能全部囊括其中。開閉幕典禮特別邀請台灣第一位留學日本舞蹈家，人稱「蜻蜓祖母」及「阿嬤舞姬」美譽的國寶級的舞蹈大師李彩娥與在地表演團隊，帶來全新舞碼的精彩演出。
　由台灣研發生產的各種先進科技產品也將應用於開閉幕典禮作出環保演出，如LED、電動自行車，並利用大型投影科技帶來的視覺震撼，預計都將創下前所未有的科技感，成為國際來賓間討論話題。而突顯多元融合的台灣在地文化，如原住民歌舞、布袋戲等各種閩南與客家民俗文化演出，都預定將在2009世運躍上國際舞台，帶給國際來賓耳目一新的感受。
